Radon Mitigation in Hamilton & Southern Ontario

Reduce Radon. Keep your home comfortable.

If your radon level is elevated, it can be reduced significantly with a properly designed mitigation system.
Radon mitigation works by creating a controlled pressure difference beneath the home preventing radon gas from entering the living space.

What is Radon Mitigation?

Radon mitigation is the process of reducing radon levels inside a home.

The most common method is sub-slab depressurization. A pipe is installed through the basement floor and connected to a continuously running fan. The system draws radon-containing soil gas from beneath the home and safely vents it outside before it can enter the house.

For most homes, the system is simple, quiet, and remains permanently in place.

01

Create a Suction Point

A small opening is made through the concrete slab to access the space beneath the home.

02

Depressurize under the slab

A radon fan creates negative pressure under the slab, pulling soil gas toward the system instead of allowing it to enter the basement.

03

Vent it safely outside

The gas travels through sealed piping and is discharged outdoors, away from windows, doors, and other building openings.

What happens during installation?

Every home is different. Foundation type, slab construction, additions, crawlspaces, and the material beneath the slab can all affect how a mitigation system should be designed.

Before installation, we assess the home and determine where suction points should be located and how effectively pressure can be extended beneath the foundation.

Installation typically includes a suction point, sealed piping, a radon-rated fan, system pressure indicator, exterior discharge, and sealing accessible openings where appropriate.

Most residential systems can be installed with minimal disruption.

What happens after installation?

A mitigation system should not simply be installed and assumed to work.

After installation, the system is checked to confirm that it is creating the required pressure beneath the home.

Professional radon mitigation

A good radon system should do three things:

Reduce radon effectively.
Operate reliably.
Fit the home without looking like an afterthought.

Radon Man designs mitigation systems around the individual home rather than using the same layout everywhere.

If your radon level is elevated, we can assess the property, explain your options, and recommend the most appropriate mitigation approach.
